Community and Location

Upper Barron State School is located in the rural shire of Atherton on the Atherton Tablelands. The school is approximately 75 kilometres south-west of Cairns (Queensland, Australia). The school has been in operation since 1911 and serves a community consisting mostly of farming families. The nearest centre is Atherton, which is approximately 16 kilometres north of the school.

The school operates under Education Queensland's School Based Management Enhanced Option 1. Parents support the school in a range of ways and together with the staff are involved in the decision making of the school.

The Parents and Citizens' Association (P&C) is the peak group for this type of activity. The role of the P&C includes:The original school; now our office and local museum

  • involvement in decision making;
  • fund raising for the school;
  • provision of tuckshop once a week.
